When recently I needed to replace a product that had worn out, I chose to go with a very well-known brand. In years past I had owned a product from this company that had truly lived up to the promise of satisfaction guaranteed. It served me well for many years. So when a choice had to be made under pressure – my equipment broke in the middle of a very involved project – I went with what I thought would be a sure thing. I was wrong. This item gave me grief from day one. It just didn’t work right. Of course, it was one of those purchases that could not be returned to the store where I bought it; it would have to go back to the manufacturer. And we all know how these things go….I called….and called….and called. I could I hear an old Rolling Stones song… “I can’t get no satisfaction”…..
We are bombarded with the advertisements of products so wonderfully produced that the makers confidently tell us we will be completely satisfied if we will only buy their item! Many offer us complete satisfaction or we can have our money back. We’ve all had purchases that satisfied us, and some that didn’t. So….if our satisfaction is guaranteed, why would we ever want our money back? A guarantee is supposed to be an assurance of the quality of our purchase. Doesn’t the money back offer indicate that our satisfaction is not guaranteed??
Because our lives are filled with so much “stuff”, we can often find ourselves generally dissatisfied. Whether it’s a product that doesn’t work properly, a service that was lacking, or people that just don’t meet our expectations, we must be aware of the danger of living with a constant sense of dissatisfaction. The world can provide only temporary satisfaction. The products we purchase and are exactly what we want do not last forever. They wear out or simply lose their appeal over time. Services that are rendered only last for a period of time and then must be repeated. And we all know that people say and do the wrong things from time to time and cannot give us a promise of constant satisfaction. Dissatisfaction in one area of our lives usually bleeds over into other areas, infecting them and stealing our joy.
Can we ever truly experience satisfaction that is guaranteed?
